Sales Pages for Generating Online Business Leads
Sunday, October 26, 2008 at 12:01PM Is your goal in your business to generate online business leads in a big way? Then, learning how to effectively build every component of your sales funnel is a must do!
When I was given the assignment to write a sales page, I literally felt like I was back in graduate school writing my Master's thesis. You see, I had just finished reading Eben Pagan's sales page promoting his mastermind program. It was a whopping 50+ pages. I read the entire thing in one sitting. And, if I had not been involved in Mike Dillard's Mastermind group, I would have jumped on Eben's bandwagon.
It was very well written and a masterful sales piece. It was real hard to imagine how I could write such a powerful piece. Then I realized even Eben had to start someplace. He wasn't a great copywriter out of the gate.
The first step was to write my story. I have a very powerful and emotional story. My story involves my husband and a very serious health challenge. As a health professional, all that I had been taught wasn't working for us. Usually during these times is when you learn the most and make the biggest strides. Because of some deep pain, I shifted some of my deepest beliefs about health and wellness. But it took almost losing my husband to make those shifts. No doubt about it, we are better off today but... phew, what a hard way to learn some new things.
So my story for my sales page had a very powerful emotional component. It should also be entertaining and compelling. We live vicariously through others. So remember everyone loves a good story.
Keep in mind that your sales page is your presentation on paper.
So once your story is crafted the basic components are:
- Benefits list - once again not the features of the product but how your product will solve a pressing problem that your target market is anxious to overcome. So, if you have a skincare product that has no parabens (feature) focus on how that will benefit your avatar e.g. will make you look 10 years younger to the envy of all your friends!
- Warning or Cost of Inaction - which is what will happen to them if they don't buy your product e.g. you'll go unnoticed at your 25th high school reunion. Rub salt in their womb. You must know what is keeping your prospect awake at night.
- Your offer of what your product will do for them
- Testimonials - this is your social proof. Be sure to gather testimonials as you build your business as you will need them in time. ASK satisfied clients for them.
- Bonuses - any freebies that are included with your product that further add value to it.
- Product Guarantee - no risk, 180 day money back guarantee
- Damaging Admission - this is where you admit your product is not a miracle. Hype is not well received by most people because they are bombarded by it and don't believe it. Use hype and know you'll lose your prospect. This will go far in improving your credibility.
- FAQ's which is where you overcome objections. Overcome the objections and you'll create a connection with your avatar and improve likelihood of making a sale.
- P.S. Your second headline - Keep in mind many people read your headline and then skip down to the end which is why your P.S. is very important. It stimulates your reader to read your story.
- Value/pricing - your price should include intangible factors such as being around to enjoy your grandkids.
Weave in all of these components in the form of a story.
I know. It sounds like alot of writing. I'll admit it - it is! But once you do it you'll have a great sense of accomplishment and the second time through will go lots quicker. It will also go far in helping you generate online business leads.
It is very helpful to sit down and read great sales pages such as Mike Dillard's, Eben Pagan's etc. You may even want to hand write some of their letters. Doing this really puts you in their frame of mind more so then just reading the copy.
Check out my sales page for an illustration of how these pieces are put together. Then, with courage and perseverance tackle the task of creating your first sales page. Your confidence and self-assurance will grow exponentially.
You'll be well on your way to being an entrepreneur and generating online business leads!
