Online Network Marketing Success: What Ironman taught me

The Ironman is the premier endurance event for triathletes. It combines a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride and if that isn't enough a 26.2 mile run. There's much that I learned about success  while training for this grueling event. The same principles apply in online network marketing success.

Here are 6 network marketing tips that I learned from competing in the Ironman that you can apply for your online network marketing success.

Tip #1 – Use one method and perfect it.

Too many people try too many methods of prospecting when they are building their network marketing business. As a result, they fail to have success and they give up.

While there are a lot of different ways to train for the Ironman event, I followed one specific training regimen. I will explain later how I came to follow this specific training.

When building your online legitimate network marketing business, master one method first before moving on to the next. So you might start off with using videos. Once you are good at creating videos you can move on to article writing.

Tip #2 – Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

The only sure thing in life is change so embrace it! I decided to complete an Ironman because I knew that if I crossed the finish line there would never be any obstacle too big to be overcome. 

Don't let me kid you! There were many times during the training and the actual event where I felt like giving up. However, the key to getting through  it was to surround myself with a strong support system.

In the Ironman, I had support from a group of 20 other athletes. The key to successfully competing in the event was that support with the other athletes.

Tip #3 – The cure for failure is failure.

Thomas Watson, the founder of IBM, said: “The key to success is to double your rate of failure.” Thomas Edison one of the greatest inventors ever, failed thousands of times before he created the light bulb. The key is to learn from your mistakes and to move forward.

I had some training sessions where I questionned my ability to complete my goal. Then, sometimes when I least expected it,  I would have a huge breakthrough which would propel me forward and inspire me.

Tip #4 – Have Goals & Step By Step Milestones.

We had a training outline that we followed regularly. We also had a schedule for workouts that we had to complete each week. This outline and schedule helped me to complete step by step milestones to help me to properly prepare for the event.

You also want to have goals and step by step milestones when building your business. Tip #5 – Have faith and focus.

Ironman was an endurance event not a sprint. I had to have an incredible amount of faith in the process and focus on my goal of making it across the finish line. Many times I gave up doing fun things and staying out late because I had early morning workouts.

Online network marketing success requires perseverance. It is not a sprint. Therefore you will need to have that same level of faith and focus. Otherwise you will give up before your big breakthrough takes place. This is the number one reason most people fail in this industry, they lack faith and focus and give up too soon.

Tip #6 – Be a student and follow people who are successful. 

Make an effort to consistently learn and develop yourself.  Identify people who are already successful at what you want to do and learn from them. One of the members of my group had successfully competed in the Ironman 6 times. I made sure I followed her training program. 

With any online network marketing business you want to learn from people who are doing what you want to do. My mentors include Mike Dillard and Mike Klingler, who both have created tons of free and low cost leads for their online network marketing businesses and have taught others to do the same.

In August of 1999, 14 hours into the event, I crossed the finish line in Penticton, Canada. I have never experienced the same level of exhilaration that I did on that day.

Did I ever consider quitting? You betcha! Each time I thought I couldn't even go 1 step farther, I thought of all the hours I spent training and all that I gave up to be there. The thought quickly dissipated. I overcame strong head winds, heat, dehydration and exhaustion. Then, there it was.....the finish line and the proud and expectant faces of my family and friends.

Now and again, as I learn new startegies for my online network marketing business, little doubts surface but I remember that August night where I overcame the hardest physical challenge of my life.

I AM IRONWOMAN!

I will prevail and accomplish my goals and dreams!

I CAN do it, and You CAN do it too!
