One of my favorite children's stories is the 3 Little Pigs. As you recall, each of the 3 little pigs built a house hoping to withstand the big bad wolf.

As the story goes the pig who built his house of brick was the only pig who could overcome the big bad wolf.

As a beginner internet marketer, many of the principles in this famous children's story apply to building a rock solid business that will withstand the floods, the rains and the storms that will threaten to tear down your business.

Some of the elements that will threaten the success of your beginner internet marketing business include:

procrastination - This is where you don't see the need to do the things that will get your business on the right path. I'll wait until....I know more, etc.
distraction - Getting distracted from your plan of action by all the enticing offers that exist on the Internet.
wrong training - there are tons of worthy training programs out there, but that doesn't mean you should do them all. Knowing what trainig you need and when, can be a real challenge.

That foundation which is built on rock (or bricks in this case) rather than on sand or straw will persist.

What does it take to build a stong foundation for your beginner internet business?

Building your web of content - This can not be emphased enough since this is where you put out your fishing pole and attract people who are interested in what you have to offer. When you do this you must utilize good basics of SEO.

You don't have to be an SEO expert. Knowing the basics will get the job done - that is, getting potential customers to your site (website or blog).
Understanding who your target market is. If you aren't real clear about who your audience is you'll be unable to speak to their desires. Not connecting with them in terms that they can relate to will mean they won't hear you.
Having your sales funnel in place. In very simplistic terms this includes your net of content in place with a lead capture page and an auto responder series.
Using attraction marketing principles at all times to generate online business leads. By providing the greatest value and attractive content you'll help your niche solve it's problems and/or meet it's desires.

Having a strong fondation upon which to build your beginner internet marketing business, will help you weather the likely storms that will come.

Be willing to do what others won't do. This really seperates the big players.

Most beginner internet marketers go on the internet without having their target market clearly defined. Are you one of the few who have clearly identified your niche?

If not, your success will be very limited. In fact it could be dead in the water. Kaput! End of story.

If you don't want to be a fatality then listen up!

If you haven't heard of Gary Halbert you are about to. And knowing about him could change your business in a great way.

He is a very famous copywriter. In fact, he may well be the world's greatest copywriter. All you have to do is google his name and you can see that even though he is deceased but his copy lives on.

Here is one of his secrets to success.

Mr. Halbert was leading a conference for a group of wannabe copywriters. Nowhere better to learn then from the world's greatest.

He posed a question to his audience of very zealous students. "If you and I both owned a hamburger stand and we were is a contest to see who could sell the most hamburgers...What advantages would you most like to have on your side to help you win?"

You could almost hear a pin drop. The students were so deep in thought.

Some of their responses included:

I'd want it to be on a busy intersection with lots of traffic. After all, it's all about location, location, location...
I'd use a great secret recipe - after all you want to satisfy those taste buds, right?
I'd be sure to use the best fresh meat I could find
I'd be sure to have the lowest price of my competitors
I'd focus on service by hiring lots of staff so you could get the quickest burger in town

These are a sampling of the responses he got, but guess what? None of his students gave the right answer.....which is...A STARVING CROWD.

Have you had the experience where you were out and about and suddenly find yourself with a gnawing feeling in your stomach, low blood sugar blues and maybe even a slight headache. It's that all too familiar feeling - You are starving.

Don't get between you and any kind of food or else.....

You got it - here's where many well intentioned dieters, health food junkies all having good intentions fall off their wagons and give in to the dark side!

Improve your opt in rate to generate sales leads

If you've been doing a blog or web site to generate sales leads for a while, here's a very simple yet effective technique for getting a higher number of opt ins.

Any time you get a better conversion rate, that is getting the same traffic but more people give you their contact information, this will result in higher sales. Can't argue with that.

Most opt in forms are very limited in their scope. They basically ask for a person's first name and email address. They have a submit button and a very small blurb offering some a free report, a newsletter, entry into a restricted area that offers higher value articles, etc.

The problem with this marketing tool is that your customers are not given enough copy to convince them to join your list. What do I mean by this?

It is difficult to give enough benefits in your opt in box to sufficiently entice people to give their contact information. Remember, your marketing message must address the biggest question which is WIIFM (what's in it for me).

The solution?

Create a lead capture page that will give 4 to 6 benefits that your business prospect will get by receiving your newsletter or report. Design a banner that will take your potential sales leads to the lead capture page.

There they can fill in their personal information and 'click' submit.

Undoubtedly, here you can create a better marketing message that will 'presell' your lead.

The Fastest Way to Generate Online Business Leads

When I was mentored by Raymond Fong and Ferny Cebalos, as a member of MLM Traffic Formula Mastermind, the first thing they taught was how to generate online business leads.

As you know, lots of incoming leads will mean you can start to then build a list.

The money's in the list. Never ever forget this. Most of what you do in your internet business will center around this fact.

Ok, enough said about your list.

In addition to some great content posted wherever you choose, you'll need a lead capture page, a sales page and an auto responder series.

Have no idea what is or how to create a lead capture page, much less a sales page?

This is why many beginner internet marketers begin their businesses by selling affiliate products. These usually come with a lead capture page and a tested sales page.

This is all well and good but...what about generating those online business leads?

Okay, so the quickest way to do this is....google adwords. Oh, Oh now I'm getting really scary.

You've heard the horror stories. People who begin an adwords campaign and go to bed and wakeup in the morning owing a small fortune to google with little to show for it.

When I started my first campaign, my heart raced, and I felt so....intimidated by adwords. That was even with Raymond looking over my shoulder as I selected my keywords, wrote my ad...etc. Imagine if I had done it on my own.

Creating an adwords campaign really is the quickest way to begin the process of generating online business leads.

By the time I got up the next morning, I had leads. Very exciting!

Do I recommend that beginner internet marketers start out with this method of lead generation...Nope.

These are the reasons I don't:

Though very quick, it is more complicated than other forms of lead generation. Therefore, it does require some training and then you need to be willing to spend money without getting much in return. There is a bit of a learning curve.
It can be very intense because of the pressure that you might feel as you watch your campaign and make revisions to your keyword list, test your ads for conversions, etc.
You will need a good landing page that converts. If you have one, then adwords is a great place to test your page.
Good copywriting skills are necessary to be successful at this strategy. Most beginners haven't learned this skill enough to be successful. This requires practice and some education such as what can be found at Renegade Professional.
It can be very expensive, depending on your keyword selection. The more competitive keywords can be very spendy. Also, Google gives preferential treatment to those marketers that spend lots of money in adwords. Probably won't be the beginner.

You can set a daily spending limit, so you don't go to the poor house. This is highly recommended.

So what's a beginner internet marketer to do?

If you really want to learn google adwords get the necessary training. This will shorten your learning curve and potentially save you lots of cash while you learn.

Why you need coaching as a beginner internet marketer

My stomach is full of butterflies, The referee has just whistled for my heat to approach the blocks.

I keep telling myself it's only a 100 meters. In less than 2 minutes this will be all over. But...I have to survive the scariest part, take off that is, better known as the dive.

Another whistle and all 8 swimmers climb up to the top of the block. Well, there is one swimmer who won't dive from there...so she gets on the mark from the side of the pool instead.

I want every advantage I can get to contribute points for the team. So...not diving from the block is out of the question.

It's like a recording...I hear his voice (the voice of my coach, that is) calling out every last detail of what I'm to do as the buzzer pierces the air. Lean forward, streamline position, head tucked in, legs together, toes over the edge of the block.., push off and slice into the water like a knife.

I visualize a small circle in the water and that is where my smooth entry will take place.

I've heard them so many times, my movements are almost impulsive.

I hated English as a high school and college student. English is one of the most difficult languages to learn. How do I know this? My first language was French. The rules of the French language are logical and very easy to learn.

English on the other hand, is a language of exceptions. As soon as you get one rule, then you must learn all of the exceptions to the rule. And there are lots of those.

To survive and excel in the academic world, though you have to master these rules of grammar and then apply them to your writing. Mr McCarthy, my sophomore high school English teacher, taught me these and with time and perseverance, I became quite the expert at applying good English grammar.

Fast forward to today.

Now, I use my writing, or should I say copywriting, for the Internet. Yippee, no Mr McCarthy hanging over my shoulder and critiquing my writing.

But, guess what? He lives on. You ask, How? All of those pesky rules that I hated, are really difficult to shake off. I guess, I'm still being the good student.

What does this have to do with improving copywriting as a beginner internet marketer? Tons. You see, by writing for Mr. McCarthy, I don't write for my audience. That's right. Though all those nasty rules that I needed to learn back in high school served me well then, they don't now.

And they ain't worth much to you either.

So to be good at writing for your audience - give it up!

Rebuke the little imp that sits on your shoulder telling you you have to use good grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc. I know...it's hard to do, but you'll have more fun in the long run and probably generate lots more online business leads.

So this little secret, giving up all those rules that you learned in English and had to apply in your essays, composition tests and what not....I officially absolve you from their bondage.

So now, you can really start to write for your prospects.

Here are a few other things that will help you improve your copywriting:

Be YOU. You must find your own voice and to heck with anyone else. You'll attract leads that are unique to you and who you are.
Be fun and interesting. Nothing hooks your reader better than a great story.
Be clear and concise. Nothing will make your readers run away faster than a long boring dissertation.
Write the way you talk. As you write, read it outloud to see if you would speak the way you are writing.
